Weekend, broken laptop, and gig plans. [
]
[ mood | creative ]
[ music | Rollin' Over - The Small Faces ]

So it's reading week again. Once more I've elected to stay here, as there's not much point in going back as the majority of Nottingham people will be still at their respective universities, Mum prefers to come visit me here, and I'm broke.

My laptop fell off my bed last week, and now the screen keeps sort of fading out into stripes. If I smack it in the middle of the screen it goes back to normal though, so until someone can take a look at it I can muddle along with the work I have to do this week. I prefer to do it here rather than in the library. That said, I don't have that much, a research assignment for Reading, Theory and Interpretation, and I have to choose which task I'm doing for my next Shakespeare essay. Hope to God it will be better than my last one.

I'm actually doing okay at uni at the moment though, much better than I thought. I've had strong 2:1 in both of my two most recent assignments. Huzzah.

Tomorrow I may go and see Late of The Pier with Grace, if it hasn't sold out. Also, we're going to see The Maccabees on Thursday, which I'm RIDICULOUSLY excited for. I heard their new song for the first time the other day and just about knocked over my mug of tea in joy.

This weekend has actually been very pleasant, if a bit expensive: )

retail therapy and Valentine's what? [
]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | Keepsakes-Sky Larkin ]

Shopping today to alleviate boredom, bought two necklaces from Urban outfitters, thus:

that in black, and a long chunky multi chained one that is to die for. Plus a black and white polka dotted bandeau dress from American Apparel, and SKY LARKIN's album! I've been seeing these guys at various small gigs since 2006, they're awesome, and they finally released their debut album a few days ago. Buy it. www.myspace.com/skylarkinskylarkin. Amazing.

Meanwhile, the entire city and a few of my friends are ensconced in the total bollocks that is Valentines Day. Discussing this with Grace on the tube today; has this day always been quite such a drag? I swear London takes it to another limit. Even Borders has Valentines day themes around. Jesus. In Nottingham it was just the card, chocolate and underwear shops, and resteraunts that went mental for it. Here, it's ABSOLUTELY everywhere. All for one day. Can't wait for it to be over.

There is snow EVERWHERE. and it's settled and it's so thick. There is currently a war being waged on campus. We went had a little snowball fight, but it's getting violent now. I just saw someone throw a wheelbarrow full of snow at someone.
Fantastic.

in other news, I got my nose pierced. see?

Life is extremely satisfactory at the moment.

The Diary of Anne Frank-BBC Series. [
]
[ mood | content ]

I've just finished watching this on iplayer, and ohmygod, it's beautiful. I was in floods of tears by the end. It's really well done, in particular Tamsin Greig's performance is really beautifully understated. You can actually sympathise with her and see how hard she tries to connect with Anne.

If you get a chance, watch it.

+1 and a bit about the first week back.  )+1  )

In the above photo, you can just see me, Connie, Jack, Reynolds, and Finn's hair. Thursdays are ALWAYS that packed. It's my favourite night of the week.Monday was £1 a pint at The Hayfield, Tuesday we went to White Heat at Madame JoJo's, Wednesday we drank at 45, Thursday was How's Your Father at the New Globe (see photo!) Friday, film night in the flat, and tonight: mega wastage with next door and their new americans.
This term is shaping up to be truly AMAZING.

Loving being back in London. I missed these kids A LOT.

this year... [
]
[ mood | refreshed ]
[ music | Epic Last Song-Does It Offend You, Yeah? ]

So NYE was much better than expected. Alan's was amazing, there was fire, and fireworks, and a lot of people were there that I wasn't expecting to see, so in the end I had a much better time than I anticipated.
Here, for procrastination's sake, is a list of stuff I keep meaning to do but failing, therefore will do this year.
Kind of resolutions, but not really as it's not really life-changing stuff. (Well, really they are resolutions, but if I pretend they're not then it's not as bad if I don't keep them.)

  1. Get my nose pierced. I've been banging on about it for ages, but I actually am going to cut back a bit, perhaps not  buy a pair of shoes for a while and use the money for that. Bang.
  2. Read. Something other than my course books. I stil haven't read "A Bit Of A Blur" by Alex James.
  3. Go to more gigs. In 2007 I was always going to gigs, free or not. I did it a bit less in 2008, and now I can't remember who the last band I saw live was.
  4. Work experience. Seriously need some this year .
  5. Dance. Any kind, preferably ballet, because I love it and now I have a dance buddy in Soph if I get off my arse and do it.
  6. Stop worrying about stuff that will inevitably happen or not happen, no matter how much I try to stop it. And stop regretting stuff I did last year, because I can't change it.
  7. Do more interesting things, like go to exhibitions, shows, etc. I do live in London, after all.

There we go. What about you guys on my flist? Any suggestions to add?

P.S: Jack Whitehall-my new future husband?

P.P.S: Not that I watch CBB or anything....

new years eve. [
]
[ mood | apathetic ]
[ music | A Decade Under The Influence-Taking Back Sunday ]

The biggest anti-climax of the year is here.
I'm not going to bother getting excited, just get very drunk with my nearest and dearest.
Except a lot of them aren't around, gutted. Oh well, Alans will be amusing anyway.
I can't wait for this year to be over, although uni perked up the end, most of it has been pretty shitty and full of stuff I'd rather forget. So I'm looking forward to 2009 and the annual failing at new years resolutions.
I'm not even making any this year.  I don't want to quit smoking, I work pretty hard already.....nope. Nothing I can improve on!
Have a good one everyone,

[ music | Hey, Hey Housebrick- Hot Club de Paris ]

So, here I am, back in the home of Robin Hood, gun crime, and er.. Capital One.
Where nothing ever happens. Oh well. I'll be seeing Hannah soon, which will be awesome.

The last night at uni was so good, everyone was on a high and we giggled all night long. I had a horrible hangover for the train home. Good times. Being back is weird, I love seeing Mum, but I miss LDN already.

More as and when!

TICKETS BOOKED. THANKYOU, GOD. [

[ mood | ecstatic ]

So, I've been on the official Blur mailing list for a while, and was considering cancelling it because it was only ever stuff about Damon and I was beginning to give up hope, then today I get this little beauty in my inbox :

"As a valued member of the Blur mailing list we are giving you the chance to buy tickets two whole days before the general public!"

and then a passcode, enabling me to BUY MY TICKET TODAY.

I AM GOING. TO SEE BLUR LIVE. DEFINITELY. OH HOLY FUCK.

BLUR REUNION!!! & The Graham Norton Christmas Special. [
]
First of all, can I just say this:

OHMYFUCKINGGOD BLUR ACTUALLY REUNITING I'M BUYING TICKETS ON FRIDAY OHMYGODOHMYGOD.

So, a few week ago Jack had got bored and decided to reserve four spots for us to go and watch the Graham Norton Christmas Special being filmed at the TV Studios in London. I'm not really a massive fan to be  honest, but I thought it might be fun and I've seen enough of his shows to know that occasionally the guests are really good, and the audience generally seems to be a laugh.

Here's how it went. Clicky.  )

My (very) Guilty Pleasure. [
]
[ mood | cold ]

In craving a bit of McDean (only got to wait a week til the late-night special) I went on YouTube and found loads of their best scenes.
Obviously aside from the "I want you" scene, theres this little beauty.
James Sutton, you are a hero.
P.S Apologies for the graphically named video-it was the only one I could find that wasnt edited by some 15 year old girl with "zomg hot!1!Ejfjk" slides inbetween kisses.

Seriously, this storyline had the best acting I've ever seen in Hollyoaks. I'm so bored of the Niall and Calvin/Warren storylines now.

pause for effect. [
]
[ music | Blur-Tender ]

So it's Friday, and I'm in my room watching a film, alone.
Why?
Because I can't face another morning of waking up with that "Oh God did I make a twat of myself" feeling again.

Last night, despite having hardly any cash, I went to the New Globe with Sophie, Jack, Kate, Fraser, Cherry, Sam, Oli, Finn, Connie, Tom, Cridford, Amrit....and a lot of others I expect. I got very very drunk. Also I had no energy due to the ridiculous diet/detox I've been on, so I was doubly fucked. I ended up in bed with Kate tucking me in. Jesus. I think I'm going to calm it down a bit for a week, so I can go properly mental on my birthday. And I ate a proper meal today, which pleased people.

[ music | Robots In Disguise-The Tears ]

I'm aware I keep just posting nonsense about films/bands, but I've been a bit behind with Robots in Disguise, and after they were mentioned in the NME's article about the Boosh live show, I decided to hit their website to see if there's any dates soon (sadly none in London.)
BUT the new single is absolutely beautiful. The video too (Starring Noel Fielding, no less.)

"work"? [

So I'm just about to go and hand in my 500 words on Marxism present in modern texts for Reading, Theory and Interpretation.
It's on West Side Story.

Brilliant, eh? I do love this course.

Weekend; not much to report. Tom Jones made a spur-of-the-moment visit, he's only just left. We had a good catch up, went to Soho on Saturday for a bottle of wine and a joint, beautiful.

I'm ridiculously broke. He bought me food because I didnt have any, and he wants me to "eat instead of drink" ahaha. Also I've lost my provisional license, so I need Mum to post my passport. I'm going to call Moonlighting today and ask if it was handed in on Wednesday, but I'm not hopeful tbh.

Not long til my birthday! 20 years old. Bloody hell.
